The 499th Haul Event of Sunan Gunung Jati celebrated at Keraton Kasepuhan Cirebon this month will be different than the event years before, because under the Sultan command the Keraton will start using Dinar Dirham for their muamalah activities around the Keraton, especially in the matter of Zakat.

''Besides spiritual activities such as reciting tahlil and tahmid, The Haul Commemoration of Sunan Gunung Jati that will take place on Oktober 2012, 27-28th will be celebrated with other activities such as National Bird Chirping Contest, free medical treatment, free circumcision for children, and Open Market Festival of Dinar and Dinham. Sultan Sepuh XIV Pangeran Raja Adipati (PRA) Arief Natadiningrat explained that at the press conference.

The Haul Commemoration of Sunan Gunung Jati is a yearly event of the Keraton. But this year, there will be a distinguishing activity that will make this event very special.

At the beginning of the activity, we will distribute Zakat to about 200 mustahiq. But this year it will be different than last year, or different than in any other place. As we have coordinated with some institutions, I will distribute the Zakat in the form of dirham,' Sultan Arief said at the press conference at Keraton Kasepuhan, Sunday (14/10/2012). Sultan Arief explained further that, dinar and dirham are exchange tools made of gold (dinar) and silver (dirham).

Sultan also said that they will organize free circumcision for 100 children and free medical treatment for 500 people.

He continued that after those two activities, they will hold a Historical Seminar of Sunan Gunung Jati. And to top the activities at the first night, they will have prayer and dhikr session. The next morning at the front of masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa, exactly at the Center Field of Keraton Kasepuhan, they will have a national event, that of National Bird Chirping Contest which have participants from all over Indonesia.

'Every year with this event we have hope and ask Allah to make Cirebon as a blessed city, and a city where the inhabitants could fulfill Sunan Gunung Jati instructions,' Sultan said.

At the same press conference, a spokeswoman of Pengurus Jaringan Wirausahawan dan Pengguna Dinar dan Dirham (Jawara - Network of Traders and Dinar-Dirham Users), Ibu Sonia said, that their involvement at this event is in conjunction with their effort to socialize dinar and dirham to the people.

Ibu Sonia added that, at the time of the Nine Wali Allah of Jawa, especially in Sunan Gunung Jatis life time, the means of exchange in trading are dinar dirham. She emphasized that to have dinar and dirham at possesion will bring many benefits whereas dinar and dirham are the two most precious currencies in the world.

'The evidence is that from the year of 1400, dinar and dirham have not been influenced by inflation everywhere in the world. Their intrinsic values are stored and stable, where other currencies have always go up and down'

Ibu Sonia elaborated, that a dinar is a gold coin of 22 carat (91,7% purity) that have a weight of 4,25 gram. And a dirham is a pure silver coin with a weight of 2,975 gram. The Dinar and Dirham could be used for other purposes rather than just as a currency. They are the correct means to pay Zakat, or to do barter, etcetera. At the time of Rasulullah, sallalahu alayhi wa sallam, 1 dinar could be exchange with 1 or 2 goats. And 1 dirham could be exchange with a chicken.
